The Decatur Regional Chamber of Commerce and business partners from Macon County spent time with our Consumer Education class talking about job skills, resumes, interviews and job opportunities in the Macon County area post-graduation. Thank you for sharing with our students.

The Young Artists Showcase will feature students’ artwork in grades 5 – 8. The Exhibition will be at the Anne Lloyd Gallery, Madden Art Center in Decatur from January 10th – January 25th. The awards ceremony, originally scheduled for January 10th, will now take place on Friday, January 24th at 5:30 PM. The public is invited to attend. The following students’ artwork was selected for the showcase: Evelyn Smith, Julianna Kelly, Abby Shonkwiler, Emma Hostetler, and Joanna Mamaradlo. Congratulations to all! Gallery 510 in Decatur has been showcasing Zach Hardin’s artwork during the month of January. His work will then be shown at the Children’s Museum in Decatur during the month of February. Zach is a Sophomore at BHS. Congratulations Zach!

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION FOR FALL 2025
Bement School District Kindergarten registration for the 2025-2026 school year is scheduled for the week of February 3 rd through 7 th in the Elementary School office.
In order to better plan class size and staff assignments, it is imperative that all students entering kindergarten in the fall register at this time.
To enter kindergarten, the child must be five years of age prior to September 1, 2025.
Physicals for entering kindergarten students and a vision exam performed by a licensed
optometrist are required by September 15, 2025. Parents are encouraged to arrange
appointments as soon as possible. A dental exam on the Illinois form dated between November 2024 and May of 2026 is required by May 15, 2026.
The parent or legal guardian should call the Elementary office at 217-678-4200, extension 2, to schedule an appointment. Children do not need to be present. Parents must bring to registration: proof of residency, a certified copy of the child’s birth certificate (available from the courthouse in the county in which your child was born), and a record of all immunizations.

HS Boys Basketball game will be played in CG tonight. The bus will leave Bement at 4:45 PM.

No practice for HS Girls Basketball or MS Boys Basketball.

Due to the forecast for extremely low temperatures at the start of the day, Bement CUSD #5 students will have a remote e-learning day on Tuesday, January 21. A decision regarding after-school activities will be made by noon.


JH Boys Basketball practice will end tonight Wednesday, 1/15 at 5:15 instead of 5:30.

JH girls Volleyball practice has been moved to 3:30-5:30 at Bement in the large gym.
JH boys Basketball will also practice in Bement from 3:30-5:30 in the small gym.

The Young Artists Showcase scheduled for tonight in Decatur has been postponed due to weather. It has been rescheduled for January 24th at 5:30.

Samantha Frazee was honored as Bement High School Student of the Quarter. Angie Corum commented, “Sammy is an exemplary student in my Foods class, consistently demonstrating a strong work ethic and an unwavering commitment to excellence. She approaches every task with determination and focus. Sammy’s dedication to doing her best is evident through her willingness to help others in my class”. Sammy was also an excellent summer student worker with our maintenance staff. Sammy is the daughter of Carla Jennings and Jason Frazee. The Student of the Quarter Award is co-sponsored by the High School Student Council and the State Bank of Bement. Its purpose is to recognize a student whose attitude and involvement serve to improve our school. Sammy is pictured with Jill Clodfelter, Student Council Sponsor and Kendra Jayne from the State Bank of Bement. Congratulations Sammy.

The JH Boys Basketball game at Sullivan has been CANCELLED for tonight 1/7/2025.
The boys will practice after school at Cerro Gordo until 5:30.
