FCCLA October Events - Bement High School

FCCLA Hosts Mental Health Assembly for High School Students
Today, FCCLA proudly sponsored and organized a meaningful assembly for our high school students, featuring The Jamie Boone Project (est. 2024). Founded by the family of Jamie Boone, who lost his life to suicide at the age of 21, the project is committed to raising awareness about mental health and providing resources for those struggling with stress, anxiety, or crisis.
We were honored to welcome John and Anita Boone, who shared heartfelt, insightful information to help students better understand the importance of mental wellness and support. Their goal is to offer hope, comfort and direction, while advocating for the prevention of suicide and self-harm.
In addition, we were fortunate to have career speaker Karla Bradley join us. Drawing from her experiences in the healthcare field, she offered valuable advice on the skills and qualities students need to succeed—whether they're heading to college, a trade, or straight into the workforce.
Thank you to our guest speakers who made today’s event possible.

Silas Olson Named Student of the Quarter
Silas Olson was honored as Bement High School Student of the Quarter.
Stephanie Leinard commented, “I am proud to nominate Silas for Student of the Quarter. Silas quickly stood out as a natural leader during the Movie for Meals project, especially when presenting our pitch to the administration. He took the initiative to create sponsorship letters and went out of his way to help classmates with theirs, showing both leadership and teamwork. Throughout the entire project, Silas was focused, engaged, and truly cared about its success. On the night of the event, he remained calm under pressure and stepped in to help solve problems as they came up. His positive attitude, reliability, and willingness to support others made a real difference.” Silas participates in Cross Country, Basketball, Baseball and Marching Band. He is in FCCLA, Math Club, Spanish Club and IT Club. Silas is the son of Melanie and Kyle Cox and Sean Olson.
The Student of the Quarter Award is co-sponsored by the High School Student Council and the State Bank of Bement. Its purpose is to recognize a student whose attitude and involvement serve to improve our school. Silas is pictured with Jill Clodfelter, High School Student Council Sponsor and Ken Wright from the State Bank of Bement.

Homecoming Information

Our Sports & Entertainment Marketing students had the honor of presenting a check for $1,296.52 to the Bement Food Pantry from our Movie for Meals event. This donation will help purchase items to create bags of food for local families in need this Thanksgiving. We are so grateful to everyone who supported this project—whether you attended the event, donated, or helped spread the word. It truly takes a village, and Bement showed up in a big way.
Thank you for helping our students make a real difference right here at home. 💜🐾

The high school football game on Saturday, October 18th has been designated as “The Tackle for a Cure Game” featuring Tri-County and Arcola/CGB. October is breast cancer awareness month and to support this important cause, all six high school principals from Arcola, Bement, Cerro Gordo, Kansas, Oakland, and Shiloh will be competing in a fun “Battle of the Principals.”
From Tuesday, October 7th through Friday, October 17th, students will have the chance to donate money toward the principal they would most like to see pied during halftime of the football game. The principal who raises the most money will take a pie to the face during halftime. Even better—if the principals collectively raise $1,000 or more, all six will get pied!
If you would like to see Mr. Kepley take a pie, stop by the office, and drop your donation in his jar!
