We have been fortunate to enjoy a mild October and November, but as colder weather approaches, we want to be prepared for the possibility of snow or other conditions that may impact our school schedule. If we are unable to open school due to winter weather or other emergencies, we may need to call a traditional snow day or implement a remote e-learning day. Click here for details about the remote e-learning process.
HOW DO WE MAKE OUR DECISION?
Please know that decisions to delay, close, or transition to e-learning are made thoughtfully and with safety as the top priority. We consider multiple factors, including:
Road conditions reported by our transportation staff, local law enforcement, and area road crews
Amount of snow or ice and the likelihood of continued precipitation
Temperature and wind chill
Weather forecasts and alerts
Storm timing
Building conditions (electricity, heat, etc.)
Parking lot and sidewalk conditions
If a closure is anticipated in advance and teachers and students have time to prepare, we may announce an e-learning day. These will be communicated the evening before so families have time to plan. The remote e-learning schedule is attached, and your child’s teacher and/or building principal will provide additional details if an e-learning day is used.
Traditional snow days may be announced the night before or the morning of the weather event. While snow days can be exciting for students, we recognize they may cause challenges for families. Our goal is always to maintain in-person instruction whenever safely possible, but when inclement weather occurs, the safety of our students, staff, and families guides every decision.
HOW WILL FAMILIES BE NOTIFIED?
If school is closed or an e-learning day will be used, announcements will be shared through:
District voice and text message alerts (click here to opt in to texts)
District social media pages
Local media outlets
Cold-weather transitions can be tough for everyone, and we encourage families to begin preparing now by keeping vehicles winter-ready, ensuring devices and phones remain charged, and making sure students dress appropriately for the elements.
If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher and/or building principal.
Stay warm and safe, Bulldogs!
