Weather Related Reminders

Dear Bulldog Families,

We have been fortunate to have a mild October and November, but as the weather turns colder, we have the potential for snow and inclement weather that could impact student attendance days. In the event that school cannot be open for students due to snow, winter conditions, or other emergency situations we may have a snow day or provide instruction via a remote e-learning day.

HOW DO WE MAKE OUR DECISION? Please understand that we make the decision to open or close school in bad weather based on a careful analysis of all relevant factors, such as:

  • Information on road conditions from our transportation personnel, from local law enforcement, and area road crews.
  • Amount of snow and ice accumulation.
  • If precipitation will continue throughout the day.
  • Temperature and wind chill.
  • Weather predictions (including those from the weather alert service).
  • Storm Timing
  • Building conditions (such as whether we have electricity and heat).
  • Parking lot conditions

If a cancellation is known in advance and our teachers and students can be prepared in advance, the use of an e-learning day may be considered. E-learning days would be announced the evening before so that proper preparations can be made. The schedule for remote e-learning is available to download here. If we were to use an e-learning day, your child's teachers and/or building principal would share specific details regarding the plan.

Traditional snow days may be announced the day before, or early morning the day of, inclement weather. Snow days or weather related school cancellations can be exciting for students, however, I understand that these changes to schedules can put stress and cause complications in the lives of our families. The goal is to be in school without losing any in-person instruction days, however, if and when inclement weather occurs, the safety of our students, staff, and families will be at the forefront of these decisions.

HOW IS THE PUBLIC NOTIFIED? If school is canceled, or instruction will be provided via a remote e-learning day, the announcement will be made via:

It is challenging to become completely acclimated to cold weather, but we are hopeful that students, parents, and staff are preparing their vehicles with emergency gear, making sure phones stay charged, and everyone dresses appropriately when going out in the elements.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or your child’s building principal.
