Update on the 20-21 School Year (Updated July 26)

Bement CUSD 5's detailed plans for the opening of the 2020-2021 school year will be available soon. We will be following the guidelines from the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Illinois State Board of Education. The safety of our students and staff will drive our decision-making now and throughout this process. (The plans were developed with our Teacher Leadership Team, administrative team, Bement Education Association and district parents.) You are all aware, things are changing daily and we are, at this time, planning on being back with in-person instruction from 8:15-2:00 five days a week. The 2:00 dismissal will allow for extra cleaning, and shorten the time for students to be required to wear facemasks. For those parents and guardians who do not feel comfortable sending their student to in-person instruction, there will be an alternative for remote instruction. We will be asking parents at or before registration about their choice for first semester. If we are indeed able to start the school year in-person, and a parent chooses the alternative remote learning, a commitment of doing that format will be for the entire first semester. For more information on this alternative, please contact your building principal.

Masks will be required of everyone in the building. We will do everything we can to provide mask breaks throughout the day as much as possible, with outside instruction for an example.

Social distancing will be a priority as much as possible. Directional traffic in hallways, water bottles, rearrangement of classroom space, staggered passing periods, supplies cannot be shared, teachers moving to classrooms when possible instead of classes moving, e.t.c. This is just a brief overview of the plan.

The Bement CUSD 5 plans will also cover busing, lunch periods, wellness/temperature checks along with many other frequently asked questions. The plan will be posted on our website, our FB page and parents will be notified via School Messenger.

Thank you for your patience as we try to make good decisions for everyone. We certainly miss seeing our students everyday.
