It is such an honor to be your child's teacher this year! My name is Mistie Denny. This is my 8th full year of teaching. And my 3rd full year of teaching Second grade. I graduated with my bachelor's degree from Kennesaw State University in Georgia. I have taught many grade levels - Kindergarten, Second, Third, and Fourth grades! I love having the experience of multiple grade levels because it gives me a holistic perspective of your child's education.
I am a mom of three beautiful children. My youngest, Miles, will be joining me at Bement this year. My older two are both in middle school at Mahomet Elementary. My husband and I have been married for 18 wonderful years. We also have a sixth member of the family, our English Mastiff, Raven. She takes up the same amount of space as another human! I am also very blessed that my mom lives with us too. We have a pretty big family! This is the start of our second year in Champaign. We moved here from southern Illinois last summer. My family and I are very involved in our church, New Horizon. My husband is the youth pastor and I am the sound technician. In my spare time I like to read and work on creative projects, but this year I will be working on completing my graduate degree in Curriculum and Instruction.
There are so many things I'm looking forward to this year! I'm especially excited about building partnerships. I believe that the school to home relationship is vital to educational success of students. The most effective teacher is one who partners with parents and families to make the most out of every opportunity in educating children. I also believe the community plays an important role in the life of students. Community provides a sense of belonging and pride. Community shapes culture and perspectives. It also provides a place for students to grow and develop new skills. I'm looking forward to developing and strengthening these partnerships.
It's going to be a great year in Mrs. Denny's class!
