Veterans Day Assembly 2015

On November 11, 2015 in Walsh Gymnasium, the community and Bement CUSD 5 hosted a program honoring our community's veterans. Over 25 servicemen spanning from the 1950s to present day took part. Mr. Jerry Manint ran the program, with the assistance of Mr. Doug Kepley and Mrs. Linda Taylor. The BHS band, directed by Doug Kepley, performed a medley of the service songs (Army, Air Force, Marines, and Navy), and the choir, directed by Angie Corum, sang The Star Spangled Banner, and God Bless The USA. Eagle Scouts Terran Trusner and Josh Watzlawick demonstrated the proper way of folding a flag and discussed the meaning of each fold. In addition, four essayists (two from BMS and two from BHS) were chosen to read their Veterans Day essay-from BMS, Hailey Gadbury and Braden Fogerson, and from BHS, Ali Johnson and Aubrey Glennon.

To close the ceremony, Reverend Marcia Frederick from the Bement Presbyterian Church conducted a reflection and moment of silence, followed by Hailey Gadbury and Doug Kepley played Tapps in honor of the fallen.

Thank you to all of the community members, teachers, and administrators for their work in putting this program together. Most importantly, thank you to our veterans, whose sacrifices have guaranteed all of our freedoms and opportunities. We and BEMENT CUSD thank you veterans!
